A recently published paper in the Annals of Internal Medicine reports the finding of an increased incidence of hearing loss among people with diabetes. The authors speculate that this may represent a microvascular complication of diabetes.

It would make sense, since hyperglycemia damages most of the other nerves in the body.
A colleague of mine has been looking at the correlations between diabetes control and dementia. Interesting stuff.
